Me vs. Hokkien

Kolo mee taugeh: Ah moi, lu ai jiak hak mik (Lady, what you wanna eat)?

Me: [Pause and stutter] Taugeh..Err....ho wa no wan (Taukeh, can give me two plates) [pause]...no wa kolo mee (two plates kolo mee). Wa aii mee pok (i want the thin noodle) [pause and stutter]..ga tam pok char siew eh sai boh (add a bit roast pork can)?

Kolo mee taugeh: Eh sai eh sai (can can)...lu cho je jik eh ah (you take a seat first).

Me: Oh~ (Okie~).

Yes, that's my extent and dilema with Hokkien ever since i came back from Perth. Anything beyond that would set my mind in question mark state. Malaysia is a multi-cultural and also a multi-dialect country especially Borneo (Sarawak & Sabah). Surely, you can survive well if you know Chinese, Malay and English but the truth is you can survive even better if you can grab hold of dialects such as TeoChew, Hakka, Hokkien etc. They're no easy if you have no background of them. And i'm one of them. Most-used dialect in Kuching is no FooChow or others but Hokkien. You order kolo mee, you order them better with Hokkien. You answer phones, people start converstion in Hokkien. =__=" Nothing much i can do beside from answering back in Mandarin. I feel i'm the odd one out. I feel out of place here.

How how? They can't possibly have something like Hokkien tuition class here T_T And it's even tougher to learn when there's literally no writings in Hokkien like Japanese or Korean to make my life easier. Sometimes i notice Hokkien is so widely in use when some companies interview employees in Hokkien. This actually add points to the job hunters if they can speak Hokkien.

Sian neh!

N&B Peranakan Cuisine

There you go for charging me unreasonably!

Never did we ask for damp towels nor prawn crackers. I thought to myself it was good of you to serve us all of those. But wasn't it too fishy of you to charge customers for something they never ask for but you serving at your own will? This is ridiculous!

Squeezy restaurant with old aunties as mrs. waitresses who dont know how to use words in a proper way + charge me something I never asked for really set me on fire. What do you mean by "I give you large size bayam, I give you large size this, large size that" huh? First of all, you don't give me. I pay for them for goodness sake and it's you serve me. You wanna give me? Then you pay for me lor. >_>" And secondly, it's customers to decide what sizes of dishes they want and manage to finish without wasting money and food (you know your dishes are expensive). Waitress don't decide for customers how much they can eat thus sizes of dishes okay?!? Sheesh~

Nah..There you're hiding

Overcharged food with a pitiful amount of food serving as Large Size

Happy New Year 2007 & good business prospects to you ah!

Shopping?

For the past three weeks, there was this never ending shopping spree that i was engaged in but thank God it had come to an end. I am not saying shopping isn't fun but it can be a dread if you're to walk and continue walking from 10am until 8pm at night roughly. Almost everyday. Nevertheless, let me do a summary of the shopping sprees that i had right here right now.

The busiest airport i've been to, frankly, is Singapore's Changi Airport so far and it's truly an enjoyable shopping experience. I think its airport is more than enough to make Singapore a well established tourism country. We reached Singapore for transit to Perth on the same day. So we spent the whole afternoon roaming in its 2 terminals, which we bought 4 bottles of wine ALREADY. I am from Perth and i would have to admit that Australia's shopping is not comparable to Singapore's. It's just too dull. We stayed in Perth for 3 weeks and there we went back to Singapore again, stopped by to do more shoppings that we missed.

City Beach in Perth, Western Australia

A romantically atmosphered restaurant located right on the beach

On a gloomy yet beautiful day of November 2006

Thank God we stayed in Orchard Hotel located just right along the Orchard Road itself. We couldn't help but to spent our first evening strolling and sight-seeing Christmas decors along the long-winded Orchard street while hunting for big "Sales/Discount/Bargain" signs. Our cab driver told us it was because of Bush's visit to Singapore recently that all Singaporeans tried to show how well lit Singapore is during Christmas season that they put up the decors much earlier this year. Okie. Thanks to Bush then.

Next day, we spent our times in Suntec City which consists of four towers. Suntec is nothing much but just being big. Talking about big, the BIG happening in Singapore is really the recent opening of its Vivo City near Singapore's habour front. Man! Geez! Damn heaps of people. Seemingly like each every residents, human beings in Singapore all moved to live in the shopping mall like that!! People mountain people sea (this is a direct translate and only Chinese who actually speak chinese can understand this). Check this mall out. The new shopping mall is connected to the old Harbour Front shopping centre. And be prepared to be lost in it. Bring your compass if you want.

Regrets in Singapore:
1. Did not spot any Skin Food established in Singapore yet. So sad.
2. Spotted a Missha store in Vivo City but the choices are very limited. Lack of products.

Super busy bee

It's been hectic for the past 3 weeks and it's going to end soon mainly because I'm going back to Malaysia on Monday. But will be staying in Singapore for 3 days before that to do some Christmas shoppings then really back to Kuching. I miss my hubby so dearly. Can't wait to see him. Eventhough we're married but the dating sparks are still there. Ho Ho Ho! Which is good!! ^__^

I've been doing a lot of shoppings in the past 3 weeks like never before in my entire life. And there are more shopping sprees to come within the next few days. And off I go now heading to shopping malls again. Adios~

Well known vs. newbie

Need me to say more?

Muzz Buzz - A fairly new established franchise coffee hut with the drive-thru-order-take-away system located in Perth so far

If i was to choose, my choice would be Muzz Buzz for some good reasons. Of coz, the coffee's quality would be the first of all the firsts to consider AND interestingly, you have a variety of flavours to choose from just to add a tingling bit of sensation to your taste buds. My choice of coffee is all the time a hazelnut latte (hazelnut flavour of coz!). The shortbread comes together is yum!

Variety sizes to suit your needs

Just in case you're wondering the prices of those four coffee size ranging from Short to The Really Big One (RBO), they charge AUD$1.00 extra upgrading it to the next size. Prices start from as cheap as AUD$2.80 (Short) to AUD$5.80 (RBO) and if you're looking back at my coffee pic up there again, it's Grande in size. So far, i haven't got the gut to try out the RBO. Accumulating it still.

And of course, no beverage is complete without food. For your own very convenience, they do serve finger foods to go together with your drinks (at an extra charge obviously) and here is the menu for your choice of food either hot or cold to satisfy your needs.

Muzz Buzz is young and eager for business and it's inviting prospective franchisees to expand the business opportunities domestically throughout Australia as well as internationally in New Zealand. Frankly, I've thought of this opportunity when i just spotted the opening of it but never came out with a definite decision cuz no money=no capital=no opportunity.

So for those out there who have lots of money and no where to throw them in, why not give it a try? Or if your heart is kind enough, please confirm with me your donations towards my business building fund via my email/comment ^_^ Thank you v. much in advance

Days without Benson & Jade

I've been on holiday for 2 weeks only up til today. I thought everything else would be on holiday as well. Nah~I'm speaking nonsense. What i want to say is "my" two devils at home haven't stop growing since then..

This is definitely a non-comparison post, meaning in a way that there is no "Before" photos to show off and i'm presenting to you right below the "After" photo shoots taken from a Nokia N73:

I need treats! Lemme have a bite of one of them *lick lick*

Don't you know this game? This is bite-my-ass-if-you-can game

*munch munch* Lemme have them all if you're not hungry *munch*

8th Dec 2006 (Post moved from previous no user friendly host)

(O Come O Come Emmanuel), (O Come All Ye Faithful), (Angels We Have Heard On High), (Joy To The World The Lord Is Come), 听啊! The Herald Angels Sing), 这位婴孩是谁 (What Child Is This), 圣诞佳音 (The First Nowell The Angel Did Say), (Go, Tell It On The Mountain)

I am aging (or almost there)

Hi people, I'm getting old (yes..it's today the 10th Dec & no, i'm not gonna let you know my birth year) and congrats me for that! And this is my 3rd..wait..lemme count...1 2 3 4 5..no no..4th attempt to write a blog due to some stupid reasons (1st one no time to write, 2nd wrote a lot but delete for no reason, 3rd host no good) and please please encourage me to finish the blogging race this time round.

Seriously, I think i'm not gonna choose another host again'cuz it's so troublesome! And i find blogger.com is the most newbie-friendly weblogs host you could ever find. Have a good nite y'all and have a safe Christmas (it's somewhat early to say that but still...Merry Christmas!)

Thanks to mom-in-law for Christmas pudding as my birthday cake ^_^
